This impressive writing or dining table is made of solid oak and is a top example of neo-Gothic furniture from the second half of the 19th century. Its appearance and details refer to Gothic architecture and the decorative style that was popular during the historicist period. Folding system: a great advantage of this table is the possibility of folding, under the top there is a folding mechanism hidden, with which the table can be folded out to each side by up to 1 meter - the total length of the table is then up to 386 cm.
Originally, only hammered boards were placed on the extendable part and the entire tabletop was covered with a tablecloth, these boards have not been preserved but it is possible to have them made in the required size, and we can also have folding tables made in any size in the same design as the main tabletop upon agreement. Decorative carving and artistic processing The entire table is richly carved. The front and sides are decorated with a continuous strip of vegetal ornament with acanthus leaf motifs. The distinctive element is three deep arches with Gothic rib elements, reminiscent of the arcaded structures of medieval cathedrals. Each leg of the table is formed by a profiled prism with vertical grooves and richly decorated capitals, reminiscent of Corinthian columns. In addition, the front of the table is fitted with two plastic heads of female figures with a typically stylized hairstyle and a calm expression. These faces act as supports for the consoles and give the table a distinctive and representative character. Table top The top is made of high-quality oak veneer, which is squarely folded into an elegant diamond pattern. The edges are made of solid oak veneers with a subtly profiled edge, which give the table strength and optical depth. The corners of the table are carefully rounded and elegantly finished. Base and stability The base construction is very solid and stable. The legs are interconnected by a cross beam with a beveled profile, which ensures not only strength but also aesthetic balance of the entire composition. The lower parts of the legs are finished with widened volutes with relief cutouts that resemble the architectural elements of Gothic supports.
Condition: The table is in excellent condition, without wormholes or mechanical damage. It has undergone thorough professional restoration in the workshop of an artistic cabinetmaker. The surface has been carefully cleaned, puttyed and manually re-stained and varnished with natural means so that the wood grain and natural shine stand out. Ideal use This table is suitable as a representative work table for a historical interior, a castle study, a law firm, a museum, a gallery or a stylish house. It is not only a functional piece of furniture, but also an art object with a high collector's value.
Dimensions: height 73 cm, length 186 cm, width 103 cm, length of the unfolded table up to 386 cm.
