The work depicts a quiet path leading through an open landscape lined with birches and deciduous trees. The author masterfully works with a delicate pastel structure, which creates the impression of light softness and the atmosphere of an early afternoon. Light clouds in the blue sky and illuminated meadows give the composition harmony and spatial depth. Garstin was one of the talented landscape painters of the first third of the 20th century and his work continues the British tradition of lyrical landscapes with an emphasis on atmosphere, light and mood. This work shows his sensitivity for natural motifs, realistic observation and at the same time a subtly impressionistic style. The pastel is set under glass in a richly decorated gilded frame, which underlines the representative character of the painting and protects the drawing from damage. The condition of the work is very good, the colors are subtle and well preserved. Suitable for collectors of British landscape painting, for a stylish interior or as an elegant decorative solitaire.
