The large-format canvas titled Port City captivates with its energy and strongly stylized artistic language. The expressive painting captures a busy city harbor with moored ships, houses and trams in motion. The color palette is bold, dominated by rich tones of green, red and blue, which evoke the atmosphere of vibrant city life. The figures and architecture are simplified into geometric forms, creating the impression of a dreamy, almost theatrical environment. The painting stands out not only for its width of two meters, but also for the harmonious connection of the city and harbor motifs. The left part features ships anchored between bollards, while the right part of the composition is filled with sailboats with red sails, creating a dynamic rhythm. In the background, townhouses and distinctive yellow trams are visible, underlining the modernist character of the work.

Author Little information has survived about the author A. Niclass, however, the signature and style indicate a trained painter influenced by expressionism and post-war European modernism. The painting may have been inspired by Scandinavian or northern German ports, although it remains more imaginary than a specific location.
