Early 20th-century tabletop live steam engine by Gebrüder Bing of Nuremberg, Germany, featuring a horizontal boiler connected to a single-cylinder engine with an exposed spoked flywheel. The miniature working model is mounted to a lithographed green metal base with decorative patterning and incorporates a tall chimney finished in a brickwork motif above the firebox. Steam pressure from the boiler operates the piston and drive assembly, translating reciprocating motion into rotation at the flywheel and demonstrating the basic mechanical principles of a full-size steam engine. Included with the model are an original-style spirit burner and small metal funnel used for fueling and filling the boiler. Produced as both an educational mechanical toy and display model, the piece reflects Bing's detailed approach to miniature steam-powered machinery during the early 20th century.
