Fantastic pair of sculptural wall lamps, model 2020, designed by Bruno Gatta and manufactured by Stilnovo in Italy, 1955.
These large wall lamps show Stilnovo’s blend of functional minimalism and artistic expression. Each fixture comprises a slender, black lacquered arm that stretches vertically, anchoring a crisp, geometrically folded white metal back shade. Suspended before the shade is a vivid acrylic glass diffuser, one red and one yellow, whose translucent surfaces soften the light while injecting a bold splash of color. Brass tips and hardware punctuate the design, lending a touch of refined warmth to the overall composition. The diffusers are hinged, allowing them to pivot a bit to reveal the E27 socket within; this clever detail not only makes bulb replacement simple but also lets you adjust the direction and mood of the light. When illuminated, the combination of opaque white and translucent color produces a layered glow that reads as sculpture as much as illumination. The lamps’ size and composition lend them a commanding presence, making them as striking unlit as they are in use. Very nice in a pair combining the red and yellow as typical colors of the fifties period. We have a matching floor lamp available which is shown on the last pictures
