Rare early version Flamme floor lamp by Guy Bareff, manufactured in France in the 1970s. This exceptional terracotta lamp model Flamme stands as a powerful example of French sculptural lighting from the 1970s, where material, form and light merge into a single expressive object. Designed by Guy Bareff, the lamp is entirely crafted from solid terracotta, giving it a raw and architectural presence that feels both primitive and refined. The cylindrical body is rhythmically pierced with organic openings that allow the warm internal light to glow outward in a soft, almost volcanic manner. When illuminated, the lamp truly lives up to its name Flamme, casting a deep amber light that interacts beautifully with the textured clay surface. The terracotta shows a fantastic natural patina, developed over time through outdoor use, which adds depth, variation and an unmistakable sense of authenticity. This weathered surface is not a flaw but rather a defining feature, telling the story of the lamp’s original life outdoors and its exposure to the elements. Remarkably versatile, this model can be used both as a floor lamp and as a side table lamp or table lamp, blurring the boundary between lighting and functional sculpture. Its solid weight and sculptural form allow it to function comfortably as a low table while still providing atmospheric illumination. Works by Guy Bareff are increasingly appreciated for their honesty of material and their sculptural approach to everyday objects. That’s probably why his works recently gained a lot of interest and started to produce this type of lamps again in larger scale. This rare Flamme model from the first series in the 1970s embodies that philosophy perfectly, offering a timeless piece that feels equally at home in a contemporary interior or a carefully curated mid-century setting. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
