Its wide, smooth, flat bands of brushed aluminum spiral and interlock around the central socket, held together by a steel wire structure. The resulting cylindrical form possesses a remarkable architectural purity. When illuminated, the bands capture and redistribute light in shifting reflections that enliven the space. When unlit, it stands as a suspended sculpture in its own right.

This type of assembled aluminum light fixture is characteristic of French design from the 1970s, a period in which Max Sauze established this material as a noble medium for lighting design. These pieces are now actively sought after by collectors of French Space Age and mid-century design, particularly for their dual functional and sculptural qualities.
