Designed in 1968 by the Italian architect and designer Cesare "Joe" Colombo (1930–1971), this table is a prime example of the Italian pop and futuristic design movement of the 1960s. Joe Colombo was renowned for his visionary approach, seeking to create multifunctional, modular objects perfectly suited to the new lifestyles of the time.
For this project, Colombo partnered with the Italian manufacturer Zanotta, founded in 1954 by Aurelio Zanotta. Zanotta was then at the forefront of the Italian avant-garde, experimenting with new plastic materials, laminate, metal, and bold forms.
Designed specifically for card games and poker, the table embodies the lifestyle and indoor leisure of the 1960s.
Ingenious mechanism: The four pivoting corner shelves conceal or deploy chrome-plated steel receptacles/ashtrays. This allowed for optimized space and kept the main green felt area clear during play.
Modern materials: The combination of plastic laminate, steel tube legs, and felt cloth demonstrates a desire to blend synthetic industrial materials with the traditional comfort of the game.
Structure: White laminate/melamine and cylindrical chrome-plated steel legs.
Game board: Original green felt in superb condition (80% wool / 20% polyamide, edged with black leather), remarkably well preserved.
Accessories: 100% complete set with its four swiveling corner shelves and their four original recessed steel ashtrays/cup holders (items very often lost over the years).
Very good used condition. Note some slight scratches on the chrome feet, evidence of its authenticity that in no way detract from its superb appearance. This piece has an attribution mark,
