:
Delicate Biedermeier chest of drawers with three drawers, originating from the Thuringia–Brandenburg region and made in the first half of the 19th century.

The defining feature of this piece is its tapered corpus. The overall width decreases from 95 cm at the lower section to 85 cm at the upper section. The moulded profile below the top widens the piece again to 90 cm at this point.

Characteristic of the region are not only the tapered form of the corpus but also the shaped, projecting feet, as well as the front, which is articulated by segmentations and varying drawer depths. The middle drawer features the so-called Braunschweiger Bogen, while the top drawer is articulated by a rectangular segment.

The figuring of the cherrywood veneer runs continuously across the entire front and continues onto the top, creating a harmonious overall appearance. The veneered surfaces are contrasted by the blackened rail between the two lower drawers. Inlaid ebony escutcheons mark the keyholes.

Condition:
The piece was acquired from the German art trade in southern Germany in 2002 and was restored at that time. The restored condition has been carefully maintained ever since, and the chest remains in good condition today, with light age-related signs of use. As part of the previous restoration, the feet were reconstructed according to the original model. See less
