With an impressive figured timber top bordered by an ornate … Read more An impressive antique flip-top games table, New York circa 1820. With an impressive figured timber top bordered by an ornate band of stenciled foliate decoration; likewise the frieze is also decorated in intricate stenciling, here featuring foliate decorations along with classical motifs. The top of this games table swivels to open, revealing a storage area lined in marbleized paper; the top flips open and features a maroon colored felt playing surface with a tooled leather border decorated with a Greek Key motif. This playing surface seems to be original and shows all the marks of it's age, including abrasions and areas of discolorization. This table is best displayed closed where the wood top is shown to best effect. The table is supported by a wonderfully carved, gilded pineapple form single pedestal and is supported by four radiating animal form legs that also sport gilded decoration and terminate in realistic paw feet with casters. With the exception of the baize playing surface, which as mentioned, shows age and use related wear, the table is in excellent condition with a wonderful patina. The table is 36" wide x 18" deep and is 29.25" high; The table opens to 36" square x 28" high. See less

The only area that definitely shows wear … moreThis table is in excellent condition considering it was probably made circa 1810. The only area that definitely shows wear and tear is the open playing surface where the maroon felt top shows abrasion and fading and a few minor holes. When closed, however, the table makes a great statement and any imperfections in the wood are the be expected and consistent with the age of the table. We have done no restoration work on this table. less
