Early 20th-century salesman sample or demonstration model of a mechanical throttle lever, likely representing a control mechanism intended for an automobile, marine engine, or other motorized equipment. The functional metal assembly incorporates a long operating lever connected through pivoting linkages to a curved notched quadrant, allowing the lever to engage at a series of predetermined positions and remain securely at the selected setting. Springs, pivots, fasteners, and articulated components remain visible throughout, clearly demonstrating the mechanical operation of the device. Mounted upright on a rectangular wooden display base, the piece provides an unusual example of early mechanical salesmanship and industrial engineering.
