Early 20th-century illuminated storefront sign manufactured by Fred E. Gilbert Co. for use in Pacific Northwest grocery stores and marketplaces, advertising sanitary infant dairy products. The reverse-painted glass face features bold orange and yellow lettering against a black ground with a prominent illuminated milk bottle at the center and the phrase "For Health and Quality" across the upper portion. Signs of this type communicated the availability of specially handled dairy products intended for infant consumption during a period of increasing public attention to milk sanitation and food safety. Housed in a substantial weathered wooden frame with an internal electric lighting system, the sign combines period commercial graphics with the warm glow characteristic of early illuminated storefront advertising.
