A graded example of mid-century functional art.
This authentic WMF Fraser’s two-piece carving set (Model #8852) brings exceptional weight, balance, and aesthetic restraint to the dining table. Designed during the golden era of mid-century modernism by the legendary American designer Irving Harper, this set is forged from WMF’s proprietary Cromargan 18/8 stainless steel. Famous for its brilliant, silver-like luster and lifelong durability, the slicing blade utilizes a specialized tempering process for premium, high-grade cutting sharpness.
Highly collectible and curated for the modern home, the set includes its original, typography-stamped red presentation box.
Archival Preservation Notes and Grading:
The set has been meticulously stabilized for long-term stewardship. The stainless steel has been carefully buffed along the natural grain to a high luster.
SFS · U2 · ATX · R · II. Graded U2: unrestored and in excellent condition. The steel has been cleaned only; nothing polished, replaced or refinished. Examined in Austin, 2026. The original box is described separately below and is not part of the grade.
The original 1960s cardboard box packaging has been dry-cleaned using paper-restoration soot sponges to lift surface dust while preserving its honest historical patina. Finally, the deteriorated original elastic cords were fully removed and replaced with clean, 1mm round white elastic to keep the heavy cutlery securely mounted for decades to come.
Perfect for collectors of minimalist industrial design or anyone looking to elevate their culinary presentation.

Both pieces show only the faintest micro-wear consistent with occasional historic use. No harsh abrasives or steel wool have been used. • The Box Packaging: Includes the rare, original 1960s red presentation box and its original typography-stamped internal insert. The vintage cardboard shows honest shelf wear: edge scuffs and whitening, frayed corners, staining on the illustration and the lid insert, surface loss on the interior insert. • Structural Upgrades: The original decayed elastic mounting cord was safely removed. A brand-new, historically accurate 1mm round white elastic cord was threaded and knotted from the backside. This update ensures the heavy German stainless cutlery remains securely seated and elegantly displayed for decades to come. less
