Early 20th-century traveling salesman sample set by Enterprise Manufacturing Co. of Philadelphia, presenting a collection of sadirons with interchangeable removable wooden handles. The cast iron examples are individually stamped with manufacturer and model information and fit within a fitted oak carrying case constructed with dovetailed corners and brass hardware. Removable handles allowed the user to alternate between heated iron bodies while keeping a cooler handle ready for use, a practical feature of period household ironing equipment. Designed as a portable demonstration kit for a traveling salesman, the fitted case and assortment provide an unusual surviving example of early American domestic hardware merchandising.
