Vintage painted smaltz trade sign produced by Gaard's Graphics of Aspen, Colorado for The Mesa Store, a home furnishings business associated with downtown Aspen. The elongated sign features a textured black smaltz field with large gold-tone "THE MESA STORE" lettering outlined in red above flowing script reading "Home Furnishing Company." The advertising panel is housed within a red-painted wooden frame, with the Gaard's Graphics signmaker hallmark retained at the lower right corner. Its traditional hand-lettered typography, textured smaltz surface, and substantial five-foot-wide format give the piece the character of a classic American storefront trade sign.
