Handwoven in cotton, this 3x14 contemporary gallery runner rug joins Rug & Kilim’s Dhurrie collection, featuring a stripe design in sky blue, deep teal, salmon pink, and cream for hallways and long corridors.
On the Design:
The tradition of Indian flatwoven dhurries occupies an important place in South Asian textile history, celebrated across generations for geometric simplicity, breathability, and functional versatility. Historically woven on horizontal looms across artisan villages and workshop centers, cotton dhurries provided clean, resilient floor coverings tailored for tropical and temperate climates. Drawing inspiration from that timeless weaving heritage, this gallery runner reinterprets classic horizontal stripe motifs into a sleek, elongated architectural statement. Densely handwoven from fine cotton yarns, the flatweave structure delivers a low-profile, reversible construction that sits smoothly against floorboards while maintaining durability under daily foot traffic. This piece bridges traditional Indian handloom craftsmanship with clean, modern linear design.
The visual surface presents a rich, multi-tonal study in horizontal rhythm, linear texture, and gentle color contrast. Stretching gracefully along the length of the narrow field is a disciplined series of alternating horizontal bands, thoughtfully balancing wide color blocks with subtle micro-stripes. The color palette pairs tranquil sky blue and deep teal with warm, grounding bands of soft peach, pale terracotta, and un-dyed oat-cream. Fine, hand-dyed yarn variations create an exquisite abrash throughout the cotton weft, softening the geometric precision and infusing each line with a painterly, hand-crafted feel. Finished with clean, flat-woven ends and neatly hand-bound selvages, this versatile runner serves as an elevated, storytelling anchor for expansive hallway corridors, entry galleries, stair landings, and curated architectural interiors. The accompanying book, Everyday Decorating by Jeffrey Bilhuber and Jacqueline Terrebonne, is part of Volumes by Rug & Kilim. The book (SKU - B172) can be acquired independently through our bookstore.
