A beautiful antique French linen top sheet dating to approximately 1920, made from substantial heavyweight white linen and embroidered in an unusual soft sage green.
The large hand embroidered JL monogram is worked in beautifully raised satin stitching and surrounded by a whimsical trail of embroidered dots. A fine green embroidered line runs across the wide upper border, punctuated by wonderful scrolling motifs that give the entire piece a fresh and distinctive look.
The soft sage green is especially unusual in antique French linens and looks beautiful against the crisp white linen. It feels surprisingly fresh and modern while still having all the charm and craftsmanship of an old French trousseau piece.
The linen itself is substantial and beautifully woven. Originally made as a top sheet, its heavier weight also makes it wonderful as a lightweight coverlet, summer bedcover, or decorative layer across a bed.
A very special piece of antique French linen, simple, graphic and beautifully made.
