Mixed Media on Canvas, Framed

A contemplative mixed-media work by Murray Duncan exploring the relationship between line, shape, space and surface.

Set against a warm, earthy ground, loosely drawn charcoal lines move through the composition, creating a series of architectural and organic forms. Rounded shapes, elongated gestures and small contrasting marks appear to float within the field, creating a sense of movement and visual tension while maintaining an overall quietness.

The work reflects Duncan's ongoing interest in gesture, abstraction, structure and the imperfect quality of hand-drawn mark-making. Rather than following a rigid geometric system, the lines retain their irregularity and physical character, allowing the process of making to remain visible.

The restrained palette gives the work a particularly versatile presence in an interior, while the aged-looking frame adds another layer of texture and contrast to the contemporary composition.

Presented in a vintage-style wood frame, Quiet Structure is a one-of-a-kind original work.
