A handsome set of six early 20th-century Jacobean Revival dining chairs crafted in richly toned oak and featuring elaborate carved and turned details throughout.
The set includes one armchair with a shaped upholstered back panel and five coordinating side chairs with carved wood back splats. Each chair is surmounted by a sculptural crest with scrolling ornament and framed by tall uprights, carved brackets, rope-twist detailing and shaped lower rails.
The chairs stand on substantial turned front legs with carved bulbous decoration, joined by perimeter stretchers for added structural support. The side chairs feature decorative carved splats with contrasting recessed backgrounds, while the armchair incorporates shaped open arms supported by turned posts and a neutral upholstered central back panel.
The warm aged oak finish, tall proportions and extensive carving give the set a dramatic Old World appearance characteristic of Jacobean and Renaissance Revival interiors. Particularly striking paired with a substantial antique dining table, carved buffet or paneled dining room.
