A rare Qing dynasty military mandarin square, stitched in painstaking petit point on silk gauze. A blue lion, the emblem of a 2nd-rank military official, stands on a rocky island gazing toward a red sun, surrounded by indigo clouds, Buddhist auspicious emblems and stylized waves, all within a Greek key border. Military badges survive in far smaller numbers than civil ones, making this a true collector's piece. Deep indigo, sky blue, coral and sage with a jewel-like texture up close. Stunning framed.
