Bjørn Wiinblad (1918–2006) was a Danish painter, designer, stage designer, and visual artist. from a very early age, he showed signs of his talent for drawing and creating imaginative worlds. At the age of 17, he began an apprenticeship as a typographer, but soon realized that his heart belonged to art. from 1940 to 1943, he studied painting and illustration at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. from 1957, Wiinblad was the chief designer of Rosenthal AG for over 49 years. Although Bjørn Wiinblad was born in Copenhagen, his style was anything but Danish. While functionalism dominated Denmark, Wiinblad's works were dominated by bold colors and outlined figures with large, round faces, googly eyes, and pointed noses, often in a nature-like environment with delicate tendrils, flower wreaths, and stylized trees.
