The construction consists of two slender … Read more An exceptional adjustable clamp-mounted desk lamp produced by NAPAKO in Czechoslovakia during the 1970s.

The construction consists of two slender vertical chrome rods supporting an unusually long horizontal arm. A series of precisely engineered joints allows the height, reach and angle of the light to be adjusted, while the substantial clamp attaches directly to the edge of a desk or worktable and leaves the working surface clear.

At the end of the arm, a rounded orange lacquered-metal shade is paired with a tall, finely ribbed black cylinder. This bold combination of colour and geometry gives the lamp a distinctive architectural presence, while the pale interior of the shade directs light down towards the working surface.

The model is documented in a period Czechoslovak lighting catalogue, where it appears as item no. 1. The design is frequently associated with Josef Hůrka, one of the most prolific Czech lighting designers of the post-war period. However, as no original document explicitly naming Hůrka as the designer has yet been identified, the lamp is presented as attributed to him.
