Beautiful early 20th-century quarter-sawn oak five-drawer chest, completely restored by Hilaire Furniture.
This piece is a true restoration story. When it came to Hilaire Furniture, it was in very poor condition and destined for the garbage (see last 2 photos!). Rather than allowing a beautifully crafted antique to be discarded, it was carefully restored inside and out and given a new life.
The chest features a beautifully shaped curved top and curved drawer fronts, all-wood construction, richly figured quarter-sawn oak, and dovetail construction on the drawer fronts. The original keyhole escutcheons remain, and all four drawer locks are functional with one working key. All five drawers have been restored to open and close smoothly.
The natural figuring of the quarter-sawn oak is especially beautiful across the drawer fronts and top, showcasing the distinctive character of early 20th-century oak furniture.
A wonderful example of American antique furniture craftsmanship, thoughtfully restored for continued everyday use.

The piece was carefully restored inside and out while retaining its original character and construction. The oak surfaces have been professionally refinished, and the drawers have been cleaned, repaired and restored for smooth operation. The dovetailed drawer construction remains intact, and all four original drawer locks are functional with one working key. The piece is structurally sound, sturdy and ready for everyday use. As with any antique, minor age-related characteristics and variations in the wood may remain and should be considered part of its history and character. less
