A substantial early-20th-century painted wood trunk with an exceptionally beautiful, timeworn surface and layers of original grey paint revealing warm wood beneath.

Constructed from solid wood with a hinged lift-top lid, the trunk has a wonderfully simple, utilitarian form. Extensive paint loss, surface wear, abrasions and variations developed over decades give the piece its distinctive depth and character.

The appeal is in the original surface and honest age. Rather than being refinished, the trunk has been preserved with its accumulated wear and patina intact.

At 36" W × 18.5" D × 18" H, its proportions make it particularly versatile in an interior. It can function as a coffee table, blanket chest, end-of-bed storage piece, or substantial decorative trunk.

For designers, it is especially effective as an architectural, textural element in collected, wabi-sabi, rustic, modern country, European-inspired and contemporary interiors.

The substantial scale, solid construction and heavily aged painted surface give it considerably more presence than a typical decorative storage box.

Condition: Good antique/vintage condition with extensive age-appropriate wear, original paint loss, surface cracking, abrasions and imperfections throughout. These characteristics are part of the piece's original character and are visible in the photographs. Structurally sound and functional. See less
