Early orchestrion or mechanical organ pump assembly constructed with cast iron, brass, leather, and hardwood components mounted to a wooden base. The mechanism features paired accordion-style bellows chambers connected to a large cast iron flywheel, designed to generate regulated air pressure for automatic musical instruments such as orchestrions, player organs, or mechanical pianos. The exposed mechanical layout emphasizes the utilitarian engineering of turn-of-the-century automatic music systems, with visible linkage arms, valve components, leatherized bellows folds, and drive wheel assembly all remaining exposed for maintenance and adjustment.
Link Piano and Organ Co. of Huntington, Indiana produced organs, orchestrions, and related automatic musical equipment during the early twentieth centuries before the company later became widely known for developing aviation and military simulation technology under Edwin Link, who used the bellows technology from the instruments in his "Link Trainer" flight simulators.
