This is a large hand-carved teak architectural panel, assembled as a headboard/ could be a fireplace
surround or wall feature also. The style is North Indian, most likely Rajasthani or Gujarati, with dense
pierced jali- lattice work of scrolling vines, lotus style flowers and foliate arabesques. the top has a pierced crest, then stacked horizontal bands of opework, flanked by tall vertical panels of repeating
floral carvings. The central opening is a cusped arch, typical of Indo-Islamic and haveli architecture.
It is late 19th to mid 20th century, architectural salvage from a house or palace interior. The wood is
teak with a warm medium brown patina. Carving quality is good and consistent, not the very finest
but well above tourist grade.
