Original mixed-media dimensional relief signed and dated "Hesla '84" at the lower right. The composition depicts an abstracted wooded landscape with winding paths, rolling terrain, stone-like passages, and dense areas of foliage, constructed from thousands of individually arranged nails, tacks, brads, screws, staples, ball bearings, and assorted metal fasteners. Variations in the height, diameter, finish, and color of the components create pronounced texture and depth, while green-painted fasteners define trees and areas of vegetation. The work is presented within a deep black shadowbox frame that emphasizes its intricate three-dimensional construction and sculptural surface.
