frank-kirk ehm-marks
painter, writer, poet.
grew up with his grandparents in berlin-spandau.
he left school without graduating in 1977.
as a teenager, he became involved in the drug scene around the zoo train station. He played himself in a small role in the film about christiane f.
he was active in the squatting scene (including at adalbertstraße 6), though his actual role in this is unclear.
his interest in books and art began to grow. He "found his points of reference at the margins of the literary canon: charles manson, céline, villon, and of course, charles bukowski" (erik steffen).
after going cold turkey, he began writing and painting intensively. Nevertheless, he relapsed again, and another detox became necessary.
from 1984 onward, his texts and drawings were published by small presses, and occasionally self-published.
his writing brought him to the attention of a wider audience; he published books and gave readings (including at the "mongo bar," and in 2003 at the "text flex" reading series as part of the 6th long night of books on oranienstraße in berlin).
together with matt grau, he ran the "kreuzberg puppet theater."
in 2017, he suffered a brain hemorrhage, losing his ability to speak and read, his short-term memory, and his mobility. He painstakingly fought his way back to recovery.
