Set of two Japanese bamboo baskets, dating from circa 1950–1960, Shōwa period, Japan. The baskets are handwoven in a beautiful pattern and finished with sturdy wrapped rims and reinforcements on the underside.
Dimensions: largest basket: height 26 cm, diameter 39 cm. Smallest basket: height 19 cm, diameter 32 cm.
The natural bamboo has developed a warm patina over the years, with the two baskets showing beautiful variations in colour. Visible signs of use and small irregularities are consistent with their age and handmade character.
A beautiful set of Japanese utility baskets from the mid-20th century, now particularly decorative as storage baskets or as individual interior objects.
