Pair of oval serving trays (or carafe/bottle coasters) in cut crystal, set in hand-chiseled 800/1000 sterling silver mounts.
The mounts bear the official German state hallmarks established by the law of January 1, 1888 (Reichsstempel):
Crescent moon and imperial crown (Halbmond und Krone): National hallmark certifying the silver content.
800: Indicates the sterling silver content (800/1000).
No. 7416 & 11: Catalog serial number and hallmark assigned to the silversmith's workshop.
These pieces are characteristic of German silver production from the late Wilhelmine period (Jugendstil/Art Nouveau).
The exceptional quality of this pair lies in the combination of two distinct skills:
Crystal work: The base is cut in a starburst pattern with converging rays, complemented by flat ribs around the rim, allowing light to refract through the piece.
Giltwork: The silver rim features a smooth upper edge lined with an openwork gallery decorated with a raised floral garland motif.
As a pair: Complete, matching pairs from this period are rarer on the market than individual pieces.
