Early 20th-century oil on canvas depicting a winter woodland landscape. The composition features a Capercaillie perched on a large, moss-covered diagonal trunk in the foreground, while two females move through the snow and low vegetation. The background is characterized by a dense, snowy forest and a sky illuminated by the warm, clear tones of dawn or sunset at the horizon. The pictorial execution employs a rich, tactile brushstroke, particularly evident in the rendering of the snow, the tree bark, and the birds' plumage. The work bears an illegible signature on the lower left and is enclosed within a period black-lacquered molded frame. See less
