The interior and very foot of the piece is in a deep, matte chocolate brown. The tapered form and richly textured glaze surface are characteristic of Gambone's celebrated mid-century output, made at his own pottery in Florence. The piece is signed "Gambone Italy" to the underside with the artist's distinctive donkey mark, used to identify Guido's own work as distinct from that of his son and successor, Bruno.
