A striking modernist bronze sculpture by Spanish-Brazilian artist Roberto Gabriel Crivellé (b. 1936), depicting an elongated abstracted human figure with strongly stylized, architectural lines.
The slender bronze form combines smooth sculptural planes with deeply textured and darkened recessed areas, creating dramatic contrast throughout the figure. Mounted on a substantial gray stone base, the sculpture has a commanding vertical presence despite its relatively compact footprint.
Signed Roberto G. Crivellé and numbered 23/99 on the bronze.
Crivellé’s work reflects the influence of European modernism while developing within the Brazilian art scene of the second half of the 20th century. The simplified human form, elongated proportions, and expressive treatment of the bronze are characteristic of his sculptural vocabulary.
Artist Biography:
Roberto Gabriel Crivellé was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1936. He studied drawing and art history from an early age and trained in artistic jewelry at the Escola de Ofícios Artísticos de Barcelona, graduating in 1954. He relocated to São Paulo, Brazil, in 1960, where he began developing his work in metal sculpture and eventually devoted himself fully to sculpture. Crivellé exhibited extensively in Brazilian art salons and exhibitions, particularly in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Minas Gerais.
His work spans figurative, abstract, and assemblage sculpture, frequently exploring the human form through highly stylized modernist compositions.
