John Costigan (1888-1972): An American painter renowned for his portraits and landscape works. He studied briefly at the Art Students League of New York, but he was mainly self taught. By the 1920 he had made a name for himself as a fine artist, receiving many awards and distinctions. His work became so popular that the Smithsonian sponsored a touring exhibit of 50 of his pieces. Today these artworks continued to be enjoyed by collectors and critics alike as they are displayed in many fine, similar institutions.
