Louis Kronberg (1872 - 1965): Born in Boston, but spent many years studying in France under Edgar Degas, eventually earning himself the nickname, "The American Degas". He is best known for his portraits, especially of performers of the fine arts, such as ballerinas and actors. His artworks are packed with energy and dramatic emotion, which was a break from the more academic style of Degas and James Whistler McNeill. Throughout his career Kronberg would win many awards and accolades for these works, along with having them displayed across the world in such fine establishments as: The Metropolitan Museum, Musee d' Oursay and the Museum of Fine Art. Today his art is enjoyed by critics and collectors alike in many of the same renowned institutions.
