The composition is beautifully executed, with dimensional carving and extensive undercutting creating depth and movement throughout the piece.

Each fish is individually rendered with finely carved scales, fins, eyes, and flowing forms, while lotus blossoms and broad leaves weave through the composition. The carving continues around the reverse, allowing the sculpture to be appreciated from multiple angles.

The natural rose quartz displays beautiful variations from soft blush pink to lighter, more translucent areas that catch the light particularly well. Natural internal veining and tonal variations are visible throughout the stone. A few small dark specks visible within the carving appear to be naturally occurring mineral inclusions within the stone. These areas are smooth to the touch and do not appear to be surface staining or discoloration. Such natural variations are characteristic of the individual stone and contribute to its unique appearance.

The carving rests on a fitted dark wood display stand, providing an elegant contrast to the soft coloration of the rose quartz. Carp and lotus are traditional motifs in Chinese decorative arts, historically associated with prosperity, perseverance, abundance, and achievement.
