A striking Chinese carved horn brush washer (bitong), traditionally used by scholars for calligraphy and painting. The vessel is masterfully carved in openwork from a rich, translucent amber-brown horn, modeled as a large lotus leaf with curled edges, stems, and a seed pod. The piece features an impressed four-character seal mark on the side. A beautiful and tactile addition to a scholar's desk or as a decorative object.
