Guillaume Azoulay (Morocco, b. 1949) Guillaume Azoulay is a highly acclaimed self taught artist that immigrated to Paris. By the time he was thirteen, he was sketching and selling his drawings in the streets and developing a career as artist that would be highly successful. At fourteen he left home and hitchhiked across Europe and the Middle East as his enjoyment of other countries and people began to influence his art. His desire to see and be part of the life, history and beauty of the world took him from Copenhagen to Rome, from Lisbon to Jerusalem. Azoulay would study people from across the globe who became his subjects but also helped him become fluent in 5 languages . In 1967 Azoulay reached Israel in 1967 where he applied to Betzalel, the Middle East's most famous art academy but he was denied acceptance. But that did not alter Azoulay's plan to have a career in the arts, and he appeared in the Israeli production of the rock musical Hair as well as other shows on the Israeli stage. Although, when it came to a full time career it was art over acting that Azoulay chose. It is his organic lines that are his iconic elements and through which he creates harmony, balance and energy. Azoulay's art is on permanent display at the Louve, in his home town of Paris.
