Restored walnut buffet / credenza by T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, produced by Widdicomb in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the 1950s.
The center section comprises three drawers with sculpted pulls, flanked by cabinet compartments with adjustable shelves on either side. A beveled edge traces the perimeter of the face, adding definition to the otherwise restrained aesthetic.
The case sits atop a recessed plinth base with concealed casters, lifting it approximately half an inch off the ground. This slight elevation gives the substantial case a lighter, almost floating appearance.
This piece has been newly refinished and presents beautifully, with no noteworthy imperfections. It is a particularly well-preserved example of Robsjohn-Gibbings’ work for Widdicomb, combining his restrained modernism with the company’s characteristically excellent craftsmanship.
Note: we believe that the original design called for one shelf on each side. The additional shelf on each side was likely made and added by the original owners.
