Mounted on a multi-tiered black pedestal base, the piece features an expressive silhouette rich with negative space, rugged cavities, and deeply etched, chiseled contours.

The work is signed "BURTON" on the upper tier of the base, attributing it to the mid-century metalist and sculptor Gloria Burton. Known for her avant-garde manipulation of metals, Burton often utilized an innovative "wood casting" process. In this technique, molten metal was poured directly into wooden molds, allowing the heat to char the wood and transfer its raw, jagged, and unpredictable organic textures directly into the metal's surface.

Measuring 11 inches tall without the stand, this captivating tabletop sculpture commands attention from every angle. It serves as an exceptional statement piece for a modernist desk, étagère, or mantle piece. See less
