Elegant pair of vintage Regency Revival dining or side chairs, crafted in richly finished wood and distinguished by beautifully carved draped-swag backs.
Inspired by English Regency and Neoclassical designs of the early 19th century, each chair features a deeply carved, gathered-drapery crest terminating in graceful scrolls. Slender carved uprights descend to a generously proportioned upholstered seat, while molded seat rails, architectural corner blocks, and tapered legs complete the refined classical profile.
The carved backs are particularly striking, with pronounced folds and darkened recesses that give the swag decoration excellent depth and definition. The warm mahogany finish highlights the grain and sculptural carving.
The seats are upholstered in a champagne-ivory damask with a subtle repeating classical motif and coordinating self-welting. The neutral fabric complements the dark wood beautifully and makes the pair suitable for both traditional and more eclectic interiors.
Dating to approximately 1960–1980, these chairs are well-made examples of the Regency Revival tradition. Their distinctive silhouette works equally well as dining chairs, occasional chairs, desk or vanity seating, or as a decorative pair positioned on either side of a console, chest, or fireplace.
