Meijerink was a prominent Dutch postwar and contemporary sculptor known for his highly elementary, minimalist bronze works. Born in Bandung, Indonesia, he moved to the Netherlands where he studied at the Rotterdam Academy of Art in the late 1960s. Meijerink was often described as a "silent artist" who left behind an exceptionally focused and cohesive oeuvre. His sculptural style is heavily defined by simple geometric shapes like spheres, ovals, and cylinders, which he meticulously polished to create a warm, reflective skin that invites tactile interaction. Influenced by artists like Constantin Brancusi, Meijerink often seamlessly integrated the pedestal or base directly into the design of his sculptures, balancing monumental presence with a modest, intimate scale. Today, his artwork is held in esteemed public and institutional collections, including the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the ABN AMRO bank collection, and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
