A charming Chinese porcelain water pot (shui yu), traditionally used by scholars for calligraphy and painting. The white ground is finely hand-painted in soft Famille Rose enamels with a scene of two spotted deer standing beneath a gnarled pine tree, a classic motif symbolizing longevity and prosperity. The reverse side features black calligraphy reading "福寿双全" (Both Blessings and Longevity) with a red seal mark. The base bears a red six-character "Da Qing Guangxu Nian Zhi" (Made in the Guangxu Reign of the Great Qing) mark. A wonderful addition to a scholar's desk or as a decorative object.
