Each panel is framed in a salmon-toned recessed border surrounding a glossy black lacquer field and depicts a stylized, elongated female figure draped in flowing robes rendered in gold, rust, and cream tones with graphic patterning, striding forward against a crowd of shadowy top-hat figures sketched in the background. The lower third of each panel is divided into a grid of small gilt-toned rectangular panes, which resembles paned windows or metallic tiles, grounding the composition. Each panel’s dimensions: 34ʺ W × 1.5” D × 80” H.

Erté (born Romain de Tirtoff, 1892–1990) was a Russian-born French artist and designer who was often called the "Father of Art Deco.” He was prolific and worked in several fields, including fashion, jewelry, graphic arts, costume, set design and interior decor. His enormous body of work is considered among the most influential and unique of the 20th century. He was the cover designer for Harper’s Bazaar magazine for 22 years.
