Curved forms, vertical structures and overlapping planes interact within a composition that moves between abstraction, architecture and figure.

A deep red circle acts as a focal point and creates a subtle tension at the center of the composition. Around it, cream, muted blue, deep red, grey and olive tones are arranged in successive planes, creating both depth and visual rhythm.

Working in oil on linen canvas, Sophie Dumont combines palette knife and brushwork, building the surface through successive layers, scraped passages and visible traces of the gesture. These textural variations soften the precision of the geometric construction and give the painting a distinctly tactile presence.

Rather than describing a specific figure or object, Tangence allows forms to approach, intersect and suggest possible presences. This ambiguity is central to Sophie Dumont’s recent work, in which geometry becomes a means of suggestion rather than representation. See less
