A monumental, award-winning original watercolor painting on paper titled "Hidden Canyon" by the distinguished American master Alan Chiara (1936–2021).
This exact painting was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal of Honor by the American Watercolor Society (AWS) in 1994—the highest national distinction a watercolorist can achieve. A custom brass title plaque commemorating this historic honor is mounted directly to the linen liner. The artwork is hand-signed in the lower right corner along with the artist's elite academic credentials: "CHIARA ANA / AWS" (Associate of the National Academy / American Watercolor Society).
The expansive composition is a masterclass in atmospheric expressionism, showcasing a dramatic, heavily textured earth-toned palette of deep umbers, charcoal blacks, rusts, and cool slate tones depicting monolithic canyon formations.
The reverse retains its original institutional label noting a distinguished private provenance ("Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Polokoff"). The painting is housed under protective glass within its original museum-quality presentation: a crisp white linen mat liner and a substantial black lacquer and gilded wood frame. A historically significant statement piece perfect for important collections and high-end modern, transitional, or organic modern interiors.
