Elevate your space with a monumental piece of 1980s Postmodernism. Painted in 1982 by celebrated American abstract artist George D. Green (1943–2020), this original large-scale acrylic on canvas is titled "Knives & Pistols".
Green was a master of illusion. This artwork brilliantly showcases his signature trompe-l'œil technique, using sharply defined, overlapping geometric planes to build an incredible optical depth. The complex, architectural center is dramatically framed by a border of thick, white impasto strokes applied with heavy, expressive gesture directly onto the canvas edge. Touches of vibrant pink, yellow, and blue drips cut through the composition, giving it an unmistakable, high-energy 1980s contemporary edge.
Provenance & Authenticity:
This piece features stellar, verifiable gallery and institutional history. The reverse side of the stretcher preserves its original gallery label from the prestigious Dorothy Blau Gallery, Inc. (Bay Harbor Islands, FL), an influential powerhouse of the mid-century Florida art scene. Additionally, the canvas bears historical documentation indicating it was formerly held in the permanent collection of the Boca Raton Museum of Art before being deaccessioned to benefit their acquisitions fund.
George D. Green’s works are represented in over 70 permanent museum collections worldwide, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (NY), the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
