An absolute masterwork of late-20th-century Murano artistry, this monumental 15.5-inch cased glass sculpture is a stunning "Homage to Picasso" by acclaimed Venetian glass master Luigi Mellara.


Combining mid-century cubist abstraction with centuries of Murano glassmaking tradition, this heavy, substantial sculpture acts as a commanding centerpiece and an instant conversation starter.

​Hand-sculpted using complex layering techniques, the piece features a rich amber translucent face suspended within a flowing, multi-toned emerald and teal sommerso torso. The stylized facial features are masterfully applied in relief, punctuated by a brilliant, fire-red pop of cased glass on the lips.

​Signature: Hand-etched diamond-point signature "Mellara L." clearly visible on the base.

Excellent vintage condition. The body, delicate facial features, and sweeping upper glass spire are entirely free of chips, cracks, or flea bites. The glass clarity is pristine with zero internal clouding.

​The bottom of the thick pedestal base displays appropriate, honest shelf wear and scratching consistent with age and its heavy, solid weight (see photos). This wear is entirely structural and confined to the underside, making it completely invisible when the sculpture is on display.
