The original lithograph, commonly titled Homecoming or The Green Horse, was created by Chagall specifically for this publication in 1973. It is catalogued as Mourlot 699 / Cramer 93 and was issued as a folded, unsigned lithograph within the volume. Examples are frequently removed from the book and sold separately on the art market; this example remains with its original publication.

Importantly, the original Chagall lithograph in this copy is clean and undamaged.
Edited by G. di San Lazzaro, Chagall: Monumental Works examines the artist's large-scale paintings, theatrical work, stained glass, mosaics, murals and other major commissions.

Subjects include the Moscow Jewish Theater, Chagall's murals for the Metropolitan Opera, the Biblical Message in Nice, stained-glass windows at Reims, mosaics, works in Israel and the celebrated Daphnis and Chloe series.

Contributors include André Malraux, Meyer Schapiro, Aragon, Gaston Bachelard, Jacques Maritain, André Verdet, Guy Weelen, Alain Jouffroy, Gilbert Lascault and others.
The generously illustrated volume contains 33 color plates and 100 black-and-white reproductions, including striking full-page and folding illustrations of Chagall's paintings, tapestries, stained glass and monumental decorative works.

Published by Tudor Publishing Company, New York, in 1973 as a special issue of XXe Siècle. Printed in Italy by Amilcare Pizzi, Milan. The original lithograph was printed by Mourlot in Paris.

A particularly appealing example for a Chagall collector because the original Mourlot lithograph remains intact within the publication rather than having been removed for separate sale.
