An impressive pair of large vintage ceramic rooster sculptures in the traditional European majolica style, featuring rich, vibrant colors, beautifully sculpted details, and a striking decorative presence.
Standing approximately 17 inches tall, these substantial roosters showcase deep cobalt blue wings, richly colored burgundy combs and wattles, creamy white textured plumage, and magnificent multicolored tails in shades of emerald green, warm amber, golden brown, and navy blue.
The elaborate sculptural detailing gives these pieces their distinctive character. From the individually modeled tail feathers and flowing neck plumage to the expressive faces and open beaks with carefully sculpted tongues, every detail contributes to their remarkable appearance.
Each rooster stands on a substantial, realistically modeled tree-stump base with beautifully sculpted wood grain and swirling bark details.
Although the two sculptures complement each other perfectly, their bases display slightly different glaze colors. One features lighter, earthy olive-brown tones, while the other has a deeper, richer dark brown finish. These variations, along with subtle differences in the decorative glazing, give each piece its own individual character and the appearance of traditional artisan-finished ceramics.
Their vivid coloration, glossy finish, and elaborate sculptural design evoke the decorative traditions of Italian majolica and European country-house pottery.
These magnificent roosters make an impressive decorative statement in French Country, Tuscan, Traditional, or European Farmhouse interiors. They would look beautiful displayed on a large kitchen island, dining room sideboard, mantel, or as part of a curated vintage ceramics collection.
The undersides feature unglazed ceramic surfaces with impressed markings. The exact manufacturer and country of origin have not been confirmed.
